A lantern boat tour is a traditional Hoi An experience where you board a small wooden boat decorated with colourful silk lanterns on the Thu Bon River. You drift through the ancient town as the sun sets, releasing flower lanterns onto the water for good luck. It's one of the most photographed experiences in Vietnam.

Time of day: Lantern boat tours operate from late afternoon (around 5:00 PM) through to 10:00 PM. The most magical experience is after dark — around 7:00–9:00 PM when thousands of lanterns light up the river.

Best months: February to May offers the best weather with low rainfall. The famous Hoi An Full Moon Lantern Festival takes place on the 14th of each lunar month — a spectacular time to visit.

A bamboo basket boat (thuyền thúng) is a traditional circular boat made from woven bamboo, sealed with tar or resin. Originally used by Vietnamese fishermen to reach larger boats without paying harbour fees during French colonial rule, today they are a unique cultural experience. Our guides perform a spinning dance on the water that will surprise and delight you!
